Funny, Tim, that you should mention recordings of authors
reading their own work. Just last night I was playing a tape
I had taken out from the library ostensibly for my children, but
also to relive a few pleasant hours I had spent in the university
tape library back when recorded books were not yet a fad, and cassette
tapes were newer than CDs are now. The recording is, as far as I am
concerned, out of this world.
Oh, you might like to know that I am talking about E. B. White reading
Charlotte's Web (my "reading" schedule is not exactly intellectual).
The Fates that dictate that you never find anything you like on
the radio once you start pushing the "scan" button, once graced me
and I ended up with an old interview with Mr. White in which he
described how much he enjoyed making the recording, especially
the part (in the early going) where Wilbur escapes...
all the best,
Mattis
