Yes, it's been discussed. The Salinger character was written out of the
movie script for obvious legal reasons and replaced with a fictional 60s
radical character that would appear to be a cross between Oh, I don't know,
James Baldwin, Abbie Hoffman and perhaps Allen Ginsberg or something? It
was a very disappointing aspect of the movie version of Shoeless Joe, but
