Yes, I have spoken to the man, it is true. I lived in New Hampshire
for a few years and had occasion to pass through Cornish many times.
He has a sturdy voice, full of color and authority, smooth and rich.
(I know this sounds like a parody of a wine description.) I don't
know of anyone to whom I can point and say, "He sounds like that."
There's the steeliness I would expect from a graduate of military
school, but the warmth of someone who sounds as if he has spent his
life speaking quietly indoors to people who listen carefully to every
word he has to offer. I would never have recorded him (I am not a
stalker!) but I can say that his voice sticks. >>

Forgive me if I'm prying, and if I am, feel free to ignore me. But how
the hell did such a meeting occur? Were you looking for it to occur or
was it chance? Was the content of his words meaningful or was he just
trying to get you to leave him alone? I'm sure it's a prejudiced
assumption, but for some reason I have a hard time imagining him as
being overly friendly with strangers.

curious as hell,
