OH God, the writing was pretty bleah but the story was a real gem :) I
mean, how can you not appreciate a work with this line:

<<Swore she had cancer and the doctor was just being polite. Now she
keeps her tonsils by her bed in a jar to watch for the deterioration.>>

I think the story is a pretty clever
poking-fun-of-Salinger's-spoiled-whiny-kids thing that Scottie would
probably appreciate very much if he could get past the sentence
structure.

I think the mother was supposed to be Franny. :)
