This reminds me of what Ian Hamilton said in his failed biography of
Salinger. Didn't he use Catcher to test out potential girlfriends as well?
Actually, I think that CITR is a pretty good "screening process" in that
sense, although I wonder what Salinger would think of that.

You know, now and then I think of what Hamilton said about how Salinger has
apparently been writing everyday for the last ten years, only nothing new is
being published. It drives me nuts. Who knows what's going to happen to all
that new writing, assuming it exists? Will Salinger destroy it all before
his death, or will it all be published posthumously?
