In a message dated 97-05-10 23:33:38 EDT, you write:

<< << Why the hell do ya have to find out
why the hell Holden did or dodn't do this or that. You think JD wanted a
shitload of wannabe intellectual computer geeks shootin the bull about why
Holden didn't sleep with the prostitute. It's goddam obvious. Cause he
 was
too goddam good. That's why he doesn't like bad stuff. You people should
think of something meaningful (yeah, like the Wonder Years) and relate it to
Catcher, cause there ain't no point in analyzing Holden's personality if ya
haven't figured it out yet. >>

thank you for enlightening me and the rest of the people that share this
 mailing list.

(is it just me? or does anyone else find it rather refreshing when someone
comes from completely out of nowhere, rears up their incredibly beautiful
head and allows us a clear vision of the actuality of the questions in life
that seemed to cause personal puzzlement?)

is there anything else in JD's literture that's obvious that i'm not picking
up on or something else you personally feel that he wouldn't approve of
that
you could share with me? i'm very interested for i hear Princeton is the
epicenter of Salinger knowledge... especially for the shitload of wannabe
salingerian intellectuals. or so i understand.

You know what, i've oficially been a member of this mailing list for
about a month or so. I don't usually say too much, just kind of sneak
around and ocassionally there will be something that will prove to be
somewhat interesting. I think part of the reason i choose not to say
anything about anything ( unless of course it's 3am and the gin and tonics
are kicking the fiesty out of me) is that it seems rather um......annoying.
Not the mailing list itself, but i suppose it's the manner in which people
choose to reply to anothers. It's a lot like the playground here. you got
the good kids who will inevitably join forces if some hopeful wants to play
hopscotch on his terms, and then they will constantly remind him of what a
moron he is until eventually he will quit. I just hope everyone realizes
that everyone you come across on this mailing list who you t hink is annoying
and irrelevant, you too could be that person to someone else. I understand
people are here to talk intelligently about salinger, but i sure don't think
i mind when someone has something sort of sarcastic and maybe even a little
funny. I get tired of all the intellectual snobbery. it's a nice load off
of my incredibly intense e-mail. G
