That's one approach, but (honestly) I enjoy a bit of wry commentary now and
then and believe it need not be filled with billboards that tell us how to
interpret what we're reading.

Well, two things: one is that some of us are pretty strange.  The other is
that there are hundreds of readers who, for their own reasons, don't
respond -- and we have no idea of how many of them caught your satirical
tone.

Worst of all, some of our best readers are off the air; some of the
additional commentary you would have received, I'm sure, would have been
from them.
