After reading all my juno mail yesterday my son and I were taking a
drive. This is an approximate representation of the exchange between
us...
Dad: Hey, I have a friend on a listserve from Australia and I asked her
what she thought of that Simpsons episode set in Australia.
Son: What did she think?
Dad: She said it didn't go over very well over there...
Son: Why not?
Dad: Well, she basically said they used stereotypes to get cheap laughs.
Son: It worked!
Dan and Son: hahahahahahahaahahahahaha
(Dad thinks to himself, "We've probably both watched that show just a
little too much....)
Dad: There were other responses too . One guy said the humor was
actually directed toward Americans because only Americans are stupid
enough to think that way.
Son: (smirking) He's right!
Dad: Did you know those guys don't even have CNN down there? And that
there's usually only one televsion set per town...everyone goes to
something like a theater to watch the one television. There's been riots
down there when someone accidentally changed the channel. I think just
last week four people were killed in a...
Son: Haw haw, Dad.
Just thought I'd share that with you.... :)
Jim
