That's beside the point. What we're talking about is a piece of literature,
which precludes certain real life conditions. What's to say that this isn't
Holden's diary? His voice being spoken out loud? His thoughts? A middle
aged pseudo-Buddhist reliving his adolescence? I've always been a strong
subscriber to only one theory: that Holden is talking to one person and one
person only: us. That's all we can really be sure of. We're not
eavesdropping; by picking up the book we have agreed to listen to Holden
tell us his story. That's all.
So *I* will have to respectfully disagree (:
