It would be completely out of order with everything else we learn about Holden. This isn't a case of impotence, not at all. We learn that Holden has an instinctive respect for Jane, which precludes sexual activity with her. That he felt sorry for the prostitute and spooked about how a person as young as himself could be trapped into that sort of lifestyle. That he has been too afraid to go all the way with another girl, and regrets showing affection for people he doesn't truly love. If you're saying that Holden lost his chubby (which I think you are - please correct me if I'm wrong) - I think you should go back and read that whole chapter over again.
