Right. So he met a lady and sort of stopped meditating. I guess I never
considered this aspect before... that Seymour might be less attracted to
what is now less than perfect.

I agree with what you said before, but I don't know. I'm thinking that the
beauty plays into it in that what drew Seymour to Charlotte in the first
place is her beauty. But to separate himself from her, he needs to do
something drastic. She loves him too, I think, and perhaps this is his
method of creating a separation that is final and that she would accept.

Because I don't think that Charlotte would have accepted a simple "Go Away."
  And I don't know that I can believe that it is merely Charlotte's beauty
that holds him. This is the guy who admonishes his younger siblings to
shine their shoes for the fat lady, who swipes Buddy's ties, who marries a
beautiful girl-- so sure, aestheticism is important to him. But it's not
everything. The essential ingredient in every one of those situations seems
to be much deeper, no?
