Report from the dimly lit dungeons of ”business”
Sat in on a meeting this afternoon, a managerial meeting about business reports, where one of my fellow colleagues was making a point about (I guess – no one really knows) bombastic and hard to read pieces of work, exclaiming:
“Yes, like it was 'Das Kampf'!”
Upon which I, your own laughing man (however disguised to a man in a dark suit), noticed how every one in the meeting room seemed to accept his reference without so much as a smile on their faces, but instead nodded in total agreement. Was this a common business joke, the mix between Mein Kampf and Das Kapital, two of the most famous books written if not read (a business joke comes to mind: “how do you know an economist is lying?” – “he claims he has read Das Kapital”), was it a metaphor of some subtle kind; or was it, really ... no. Ten educated, decently gifted men and women could not let such a hilarious slip pass without laughing, smiling, commenting…something.
I wiped that smile off my face and went back to work. There is not only Section Men to worry about in this world of ours.
