Hi all, I'm new to this news group but have been reading salinger since i was 16. this discussion of first catcher memories, or catcher memories in general, is very interesting to me. the first time i read catcher i was 16. i felt in touch with holden because i was the same age as he was during the action of the story. then when i read it again at 17 i still felt that i could connect with him because he is telling the story at age 17. now that i am 18, i feel kind of strange reading it over again. it's not that i can't connect with the character anymore just because i'm a year older. it's like growing up with a friend and having that friend stay the same age as you grow older. i know this may sound like i'm making myself out to be over the hill, but these are just my impressions of catcher. >mike
