are you talking about the douglas coupland book, or the sunday times
propagated phenomenon? or the billy idol band?

if you're talking about the *book*, iirc, the three primary characters
worked quite hard (i recall a spiel about dag doing excessive hours
tending bar). i don't really remember much mention of relatives at all,
but it's been a while since i read it.

as for the ambition factor, they were pretty dedicated to their own
personal ideals, although, yes, they did lack ambition in the traditional
sense. there was the whole thing about leaving the advertising job, and
being absorbed into basement culture.

that book never really 'spoke' to me anyway. much preferred 'microserfs'.
it had a stronger narrative. i suppose that's why i prefer, say, rhtrc to
s:ai. i like writing that has a strong plot/yarn. but that's just me.

(ObSal: wasn't zooey a bit old to be still living at home in f&z?)
