In a short story titled "this sandwich has no mayonaise, salinger refers
to a holden caufield, little brother to a Vincent/D.B. Caufield. in
this story, holden is said to have died in the pacific during www II,
but the holden we know and love from "catcher" would have been too young
to have served in WWII.
