This may sound silly but when I read The Great Gatsby I felt like the book had some familiar, I would say themes but I wouldn't categorize it as that, messages as Catcher did. For example when Gatsby died it was maybe because he had lost some of his past innocence and morals like his puritan work ethic and his family bonds. Also when Gatsby died Nick was trying to preserve Gatsby's image as he was in his formative years and not the corrupt person he really was. When I read the part when Nick tries to wipe away the obscene words on Gatsby's doorstep it was just like when Holden was wiping away the obscene words from the school doorstep. This may sound far fetched but it came to me when I read your post. -Liz Friedman _________________________________________________________ DO YOU YAHOO!?
