Camille directs me to Eric Sams's book, for which I thank her. But "it's now been agreed" hinted at something bigger--a concurrence at some sort of ecumenical council. If I stroll into this year's Shakespeare conference in San Francisco and slap Gary Taylor on the behind, will he greet me with, "Ah, Matt! Have you heard?"? Will I see Brian Vickers and Terry Eagleton, differences finally resolved in the meager but healing leaves of Q1, chatting cheerily over a pint and a cigar? In the end, I myself like the Q1-as-draft theory best. But nothing in Shakespeare studies is simple. -- Matt Kozusko mkozusko@parallel.park.uga.edu
