I just had a discussion of this story in an AOL chat last night, and it was interesting. There were a few people present, but really only three talking about the story. Myself, a 26ish year old woman from Atlanta (who I think is fairly innocent), and a not so innocent 16 year old girl from New York (who spent half the chat complaining about the movie Titanic :) ). I had a problem with the story--I assumed, all the way through, that the girl in bed with the older gentleman (Lee) was Joanie--the wife of the man calling Lee. But then I got to the end, and the man on the phone calls back saying "Joanie just walked in." Doesn't make sense. Lee's and the girl's reactions only make sense if the girl is Joanie. So I'm left muddling around trying to figure out what's going on. And the 16 year old girl says, The man called Lee back to save face, and was lying about Joanie coming home. Of course. I KNOW that's what it is. But I still have a hard time accepting it--on an emotional level. Why? Well, that'd make the man calling terribly pathetic, and the two characters in bed pretty, eh, evil looking. Very painful situation. Now, that's the Point of the story, I think. But this is an instance of personal biases influencing my reading of the story, don't you think? :) Jim ___________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail.
