Alice could retort to Humpty Dumpty, legitimately, because Humpty was not using the commonly accepted meaning of words. He tried to use words outside of their accepted meaning within their reading community. If anything, your post proves the opposite of your point--that authorial intent DOES NOT determine meaning in an absolute fashion. If that were so, Humpty's insistence on the meaning being determined by his "intent" would be irrefutable.
