Thanks very much for the info., unfortunately however,
the kind of cab Holden rode to Ernie's in, the
venerable Checker cabs, are no longer on the streets
of New York.  They were large and roomy inside with
two extra tiny collapsable seats in the rear
passengers' section on the floor.  The last one was
retired only a few months ago and previously it's
driver was in competition with one other to see which
of the last two Checker's could ramble on the longest;
uptown and down, east side and west, throughout
Manhattan.  The new cabs just don't have the same
character (or leg room).
