Well, w/o being familiar with this poem myself, and just having given
it a cursory reading, something on these lines is what I ended up
saying first in response, but in so far as Rilke seems to give this
Greek story a different spin than, say, Homer, and Eurydice is happier
with death, so to speak, and so on, I just wondered if this particular
phrase also was a 'translation' problem - one of those cultural
things, maybe, where the relevant phrase may have meant something else
metaphorically that doesn't come through in English, because of
different cultural contexts or something like that...

ANyway, thanks for writing back. This might be inappropriate for the
list as a whole, so would appreciate if those writing back would reply
