Greetings baseball and Salinger sentimentalists.

I have had a question brewing for some time now ever since my first, recent
exposure to "Shoeless Joe", by W.P. Kinsella. I am aware that Kinsella has
written many a baseball book, but I am specifically curious as to the
reoccurrence of the Kinsella name in relation to "Shoeless Joe" and
otherwise.

First of all, Ray Kinsella is the name given to the main character in
"Shoeless Joe" (and carries to "Field of Dreams" as well), and if I am not
mistaken, there is a Ray Kinsella in "A Girl in 1941 with No Waist at All".
Surely W.P. Kinsella is a pen name giving tribute to JD? And, likewise, the
reason for choosing the character name? Otherwise, this would be the best
damn coincidence of which I have ever heard (my feeble attempt to avoid
ending with a preposition; like it?).

Sorry if this topic was covered in prior discussions -- I am a fairly new
breed of bananafish.

Happy to have spent her last evening at County Stadium in July with a few
tears shed,
Jennifer
