Good afternoon,

Re: Ernest Hemingway.

In Oak Park, Illinois, Papa's birthplace, they've preserved his home.
(Which is rather amusing, considering how much he hated the place.) Every
year around his birthday, they hold a huge month-long festival. This past
year was especially big, as it was his 100th birthday.

Oak Park is also famous as the place where Frank Lloyd Wright cut his
architectural teeth. Neat little town, just west of Chicago.

Re: Other Cities with Plaques
If you're ever in Dublin, on the Trinity College side of the Liffey, be sure
to watch the sidewalk as you're wandering around town. There's plaques set
in the ground commemorating the real places where ULYSSES scenes took place,
even down to the bookstall where Bloom buys the trashy novel for Molly. And
then, of course, there's Davy Byrne's.

Fun stuff for a geek like me. (There's a big celebration there on June 16th
every year to mark Bloomsday, too. I've never been to that myself. I'm
guessing that at least one of you has, though.)

Sounds like a man I'd love to meet. What fun, Tim.

This is appropos of nothing, but a couple of weekends ago, I went to a
concert of 'Walt Whitman and the Soul Children'. (I don't know if that's the
man's real name or what, but it sure strikes a familiar note.) It's a
children's gospel choir from the projects on the south side of Chicago, and
quite possibly one of the best musical performances I've ever seen. They do
a good deal of travelling, as they're rather well-known, so you never know
if they're coming to your hometown. So if you ever get a chance...

(Today's high traffic is rather like the old days. It's nice to see so many
missing faces returning.)

Regards,
Cecilia.
