Cecilia, I didn't think the Scharzbaum review fair...such negativity
and the grade of "D" for the book (alliteration aside) seemed unfair,
at least in my reading...the research on JD Salinger's war and
family, along with a serious and well informed critique of JD
Salinger's cosmology shouldn't be ignored. I did agree with Ron
Rosenbaum (when last writing about Mr. Salinger, Mr. Rosenbaum's "The
Haunted Life of J.D. Salinger" was seen in the pages of the June l997
issue of Esquire) when he expressed doubt about some of Ms.
Salinger's interpretations and how they were reflections of his
father's character. Esme, for example, is a healing, loving,
brilliant young lady and not really dealt with in any depth by Ms.
Salinger. Anyway, the review in today's times, and nice links to the
NYTimes printed work on Salinger over the years is at
