in a forum were expected to stick to the topics at hand and not
digress. So, there came to be Obligatory Reference -- if you didn't
make your post pertinent, you (to play in the spirit of things) make
an obligatory reference to it at the end, and labeled it "ObRef" or
(a local custom) ObSal. Partly tongue in cheek, partly serious.

Paul has crowned it an "OSR." Just another derivation. And all
because this medium came from sparse roots, where every paragraph
mattered dearly and there was no tolerance for digression. I'm glad
we have the ability to tolerate digression, for in there we find so
many good comments.
