Remember how Holden meets Sally under the clock at the Biltmore Hotel?
For years, that was a favorite meeting place in midtown Manhattan, but
it is gone now. For those who wonder what happened to it, an obituary
in today's NY Times clears it up:
The Times notes the death of real estate developer Seymour Milstein,
who was noted, among other things, for "outrag[ing] city officials and
preservationists [in 1981] by demolishing the famous Palm Court lounge
and gilded clock at the Biltmore Hotel on Madison Avenue, after
promising to restore them...."
A nice way to go down in history!
