It seems like the way kim explained it, it's not that the two Frannys are
"different," but when "Franny" was written, Franny wasn't Franny Glass, and when
Zooey was written, she had become Franny Glass. There should be continuity
between the Franny in "Franny" and the Franny in "Zooey" because "Zooey" was
written as a continuation of "Franny." I think the close reading is just to
hold up remnants of a prior intent in "Franny."
