in last week's new yorker, the one with the baseball
cover, there's a talk of the town item on the new
walk/don't walk signs being installed in manhattan.
the 'star' of the piece is an eight-year-old upper
west side boy named jacob. he says some kittenish
things about the new signs vs. the old. but in a
throwaway aside (by the reporter, no doubt his dad),
we learn that the child isn't a yankees fan, but a
mets', so our eight year old didn't stay up late
watching the yankees/red soxes' games. instead, just
reading a book.
