Sorry that I'm a bit late in entering into the discussion but I have to say
that I assumed Matt was impersonating JDS (or his lawyers at least) re:
quoting his words.
On a separate but related point.

Saw Bill Bryson last night. Packed, packed studio of over 700 people,
hundreds more standing outside. He read from his two latest works. Members
of the audience were literally crying. I was stuffing tissues in my mouth
trying to stop laughing. The room was shaking as this quiet unassuming man
read pieces from his books. (My favourite: In an article on stupidity and
dumbing down, Bryson quotes Mariah Carey who was being interviewed and asked
about poverty and the third world. She said :'"When I see people on TV who
are starving, I just cry. I mean, I'd like to be that thin but not with all
those flies and death and stuff.")

In question time Bill revealed that his books DO NOT SELL in the States
because no one understands his humour.

Is this true?
