<<I have noticed that American and English humor is different. English
humor, same goes for Australian & Canadian, is more wild and
ridiculous. Look at Monty Python and Mr. Bean compared to Seinfeld(the
best show!) and Saturday Night Live. I also have noticed that English,
Canadian and Australian comedy has more cross dressers for some
reason. I don't know, it's funny to compare the two.

See, I see Monty Python as being pretty sophisticated, and Seinfeld as
just exaggerating the obvious to the point of it being blatantly obvious
and ridiculous. I see SNL as having a lot more in common with Monty
Python than with Seinfeld, actually.

I'm talking the first two casts, of course. :) I'm thinking of the time
Jesse Jackson was the guest host--there was a scene up in the production
room. Four white guys were sitting behind the console, and someone stuck
their head in the door and said, "Jesse's coming!" A closet door opened,
four black guys got out and sat behind the controls while the four white
guys hid in the closet. Jesse came in, said "Hey" to the brothers,
stepped out and the four white guys took the controls again.

And when the skit was over I sat there and thought, "I can't believe they
did that." Then I heard Martin Short's editorial--from the perspective
of a conservative white yuppie--callling Jesse a "self-appointed leader
of the black people," during which Jesse sat down next to him and stared
at him till he got scared and ran off the set--and I REALLY thought, "I
can't believe they did THAT."

Not too different from Life of Brian, really, just making a commentary on
a different facet of society.

Now, what do you all make of Who's Line is it Anyway now that it's hosted
by Drew Carey (I admit, I miss the Brit that was doing it before) or the
brilliant contrast between Brits and Americans in A Fish Called Wanda?
