Scottie -- I'd like you contrast this response to Matt with your response
to me RE: Lacan. I said he was passé in academic circles (absorbed is more
appropriate), and you remarked that this demonstrates better than anything
the "shifting sands & tides of fashion that dominate the world of the
academic literati?"

Now, to the obvious question: "If creative writers are encouraged to bury
their past work (either with or in spades), why aren't academics?"

Why is change "shifting sands, tides" and, worst of all, "fashion" among
the literati when in creative writing it's "progression"?

Society changes. People change. The questions we ask and the ways we try
to answer them change. All this is reflected in both literary studies and
creative writing.

But come on. You already knew that ;)
