i don't have it here but i think it's the 13th sonnet
from part 2 of 'sonnets to orpheus'. begins something
like 'be in advance of all parting as though it were
behind you.' and goes on along the lines of 'here
among the waning be, be a ringing glass that shatters
as it rings.' and ends with something like 'to the
infinite sum of nature, add yourself and cancel the
count.' rilke wrote of all of the 55 sonnets, this one
matter most to him.
