Explanations (for SB)

Hi Scottie,

Explanations -- the Long John Silver thing was an invocation, reminding
everyone that it was, a week or so ago, International Talk Like a Pirate day.
That's a real thing -- an unofficial holiday started by some dudes who run a
website. It caught on last year and got even bigger this year. The web page
explains the idea. It's all just for fun.

The sarcasm was in response to a silly article that Luke posted about poor
Harvard PhD's who feel discriminated against in the academy. You might have
missed the original post.

And although I studied Said's work on literature in grad school, I was never
a big fan (too cultural-materialist for my taste). Still, it was sad that he
passed, and Robert Palmer, and George Plimpton, and Sheb Wooley, and Johnny
Cash, and Warren, and....

Enough. As a wise man once reminded us, "we're decomposing as we go."
