... every now and then stumbling across and idea or a book or an argument or
a moment in class that strikes a chord within them and makes their eyes
widen and the hair stand up on their necks and they argue and they think and
they learn and they go home and stay out all night and do it all again the
next morning.
John

Is that what you call it, "stumbling". For the un-knowledgeable kid who
goes to college, and has read a book or two and does not have much of an
idea of the scope of say, history, or philosophy, or literature; who make
the syllabi and select the reading materials and the scope and core
requirements for a degree in a field and who grades and measure their
progress? Are there areas that are completely neglected or ignored in elite
humanitist's programs, oh no its just as simple as a bunch of kids fumbling
around in the dark. You say they think, but what grade do they get for that
thinking? What criteria? I am sure they learn that too.
Daniel

The rest is just talk-radio bullshit, conservatives whining about liberals
and liberals whining about conservatives as if it mattered to anyone but
themselves.
John

And your posts makes it very clear that it does not matter a bit to you. So
what shall we call them? List Serve Post bullshit. It has to mean
something before it matters so John, what does your denial mean?
Daniel

Whine on, Daniel. But frankly, to me, your little anti-academic tirades
reek of desperation and frustration and rejection and resentment and they
sound like the sad complaints of a bitter man.
John

There you go John, let it out, we are not in the classroom, your students
won't see. The words of man who knows no certainty yet appeals to frank
again.

John, I love the smell of napalm in the morning. The battle rages and the
blood flows; Owen Barfield said that opposition makes the best of friends,
well, I hope we become the best of friends.
All the best,
Daniel
