He was great. Dylan's band was extremely tight and he called a guitar a
gee-tar (: It would have been
nicer if he'd chatted to the audience a bit - Patti Smith was there shaking
people's hands and letting them sing into her microphone. And I think she
was the real revelation - she was truly incredible, one of those performers
that just had an indefinable brilliance that really gets to you. She was
funny, and erudite as you would imagine - even my mother (who I went with)
was mighty, mighty impressed with her. She closed with Rock and Roll Nigger
and it's
still as powerful as I imagine it was in New York in the 70's. It was worth
it just for her, but then again, few things could beat getting to hear Bob
Dylan singing `Blowing in the Wind' live, either!
