all,
we may well have to face that great men do not always lie behind
great books. hell, accepting that an author is flawed (and the
surprise is what?) doesn't effect the way i read his or her books but
i suppose we all have a tendency to idealise, imagine. if salinger is
an utter arse i simply don't care. mildly interested perhaps but it's a
fundamentally unneccessary interest. more of a questioning of my
interest in his life than the life itself, which i have no damn right to
do. so, to joyce, where ever you are, you are like jerry springer,
mildly interesting for a couple of seconds until you realise that it is
simply none of my bloody business.
