First Catcher Memories

Hi All! I know that this is in response to a very old post but this is the
first time I have been able to sit and reply in a really long time. When
I was a Junior in highschool we had a family friend come and stay with us
for Thanksgiving. He was at the time just finished with his Ranger
training. Well he brought my brother and sister and I a gift, all of them
books. My sister got a Disney book, my brother one about planes and for
me Catcher In the Rye. In the book he had written on the first page the
date and told me that this book had helped a great deal in his maturing in
life and that he hoped I got everything he got from it and more. Well I
can say that I feel as though I have and the gift he gave me has helped me
to understand parts of life I thought were not understood. About a year
ago my brother went to see the movie "Conspiracy Theory" and in it they
refer to CITR with the large display of books in Gibson's room. My
brother came home that night and woke me up at 1:00 am to tell me he
wanted to borrow my copy of CITR. Well my brother was never really into
reading too much but I believe he finished it in a week and told me it was
one of the best books he had ever read. Books are so wonderful to give as
gifts and thanks to Salinger and my friend Richard I have been able to
give the gift to others that I received myself.
