I guess I was thikning of Raymond Ford, at some level. But my first
thought was [he lied in every word, the hoary cripple!!] the intro to part
II of "Eseme." "Bananafish" having failed utterly in my English class, I
countered with "Esme." Some of my less-than-careful (or, perhaps, just
less-than-interested) readers did not make the connection between X and
the story's narrator.
