Re: the Hamilton book

Camille, though I think you are pretty harsh with hamilton, I too felt
angry with his text and his pretensions...he never mentions the large
amount of $ he received, nor does he expose the extraordinary research
support he received, and his "discovery" approach to mr. salinger ignores
the fact of what we on bananafish enjoy everyday--that there are many many
readers who enjoy mr. salinger's work and find it so vibrant and alive
we've learned to look for mr. salinger mostly on the page. 

I think it's ironic that salinger's depostion for the hamilton case
provided some of the best proof that mr. slainger continues to write.  I
don't think hamilton interpreted this deposition well at all.  However,
I'm not a phony and have to admit that I've benefited from hamilton's book
and research notes.  I don't think a book like his was avoidable, and it
could have been worse, but I do share your aversion to his attitudes.
