Dear Pete,
I am not a college kid, i'm on vacation ...
Or to speak with the insurmountable Sally Brown
(Charlie's sister, you see where all my 'wisdom'
comes from ... :-) (hey, you brought up the comics
in this): "I don't go to school, I went last year!"

But really. In Sept. I enter my second year
as a Media student, much to the always present
but never voiced sorrow/chagrin of my father
who wanted me to be a history student, and
the piqued-ness (this is a word?) of my mother
who saw a bright future for me in Medicine.
I'm 20 years old.
When is freshman or sophomore, anyway?
In college there are a few right wingers as well,
but more, the people who simply don't really care,
as it is with world in general, i think.
America is just this big country and very rich,
in the view of Africans and Asians and other poor
countries, i think. Basically, people everywhere
want to eat and be safe. They don't really have
that, (of course there are exceptions) and they see
all of that in the States, so they want that too.
My guess is, to stop this ranting and raving,
that 'the world' is not so much going left or right,
as longing for basic needs.
But this is not to say that leftism is irrelevant,
it's the only way for me, and since i was 15, i've
grown more and more into leftism, I used to vote
social democrat (ok so just 1 time) but now i vote
the Green Party.
College leftism is as valid as anything else,
don't hang on to notions like "you're only
on the left because you are in college", because
what does that prove? That as soon as you get
an education, as soon as you tend to look
beyond the end of your nose, you go left?
And that's a bad thing. A Cage-ism is well-suited
here: "Say it all, with me: Now, please!"

Zazie,
Keep in mind, though, that you're as much a college kid as I am (aren't
you? You never answered that age question). I keep hearing from all
over that the college institution breeds leftist worse than anywhere else,
so I'm always suspect of my leanings. Plus, the whole "isn't everyone
else doing this" assumption is tough for me to support as well because
only this year have I started keeping up in the news. Up until about
February of my freshmen year of college, it was all comics and
horoscopes for me. Therefore, the notion that I have about the whole
world can also be attributed to college leftism. What are your thoughts
on this?

Pete.
