no, to put saddam in his place was the point!! with him left in charge,
they knew they could run things and not have to worry about him making too
much noise anymore. it's like training a dog to fetch your slippers. once
you train the dog, you don't send him to the pound and get a new dog and
start all over do you? desert storm was like training saddam to not dig up
the rose bushes. we know he won't dig up the rose bushes again, 'cause he
knows the consequences. once he rolls over and someone else takes charge,
maybe the new guy'll want to dig up some gardenias or something. so, why
not leave the trained dog in there as long as possible, keep the garden
nice? i'm not saying it's right or wrong, that's just how i see it. if the
us had WANTED saddam out of the way, they would have done it.

that's a hell of a rhyme by the way.

my question of the day:
from "for esme- with love and squalor," what does the phrase "eyes that, i
thought, might very possibly have counted the house" mean?
