Scottie, I actually ordered the book by Crstal (Language and the
Internet) after reading an article about it in the Circuits section
of the NY Times last week. It sounds as if Crystal is going to be
talking about "Internet Language" in the book and I've been keenly
interested in the ways traditional literacy and technological
literacy are converging. I really appreciated your post because I
agree that clarity is the key. What I love to disagree with you
about, is whose sense of clarity will rule. I love computers because
because they made a very static sense of literacy come alive in so
many new and wonderful ways. I'm hoping Crystal's work will help
teach me which of those ways really matter. will
