Subject: Zooey's use of buddy

Anyone have an opinion (I came to the right place, didn't I) about
Zooey's verbal tick of calling everyone "buddy," when he has an older
brother named Buddy? He calls Franny buddy throughout "Zooey." I would
think that JDS, as a writer, would avoid using that particular address if
he was going to have a character by the same name unless he meant
something by it.
Also, isn't this chronologically (publishing wise) the first
mention of the Buddy character?
I'm not going to even venture a guess about what this means, how this
plays. But I would like to hear what you guys have to say.
