What I liked about the characters of the daughter and the boyfriend is
that they weren't too enlightened. The boy is really onto something in
life, but mostly they're still working out how to live. This is
especially true of the daughter, who was a bit bitchy, but was
basically a teenage girl trying to work out some of her own ideas and
rejecting those of her old friend in favour of the boyfriend's. Like
Holden, she hasn't gotthe answer but she is looking for it, which
involves some selfishness and hurt along the way.

Love, Lucy-Ruth
