Well you never know with JDS. It's like I was sure Babe Gladwaller was
Sergeant X because he is a Father Zossima fan and Sergeant X uses a quote
from Zossima in For Esme, but alas Babe was not married during the war and
Sergeant X was.

You will be relieved to learn that Mr. Vines, who knows his way around an
igloo, does not figure in the voluminous correspondence of That German
Poet.)

No, not in the correspondence, but Rilke did translate Vine's book into very
fluid and breathing German, in fact it has been considered a model for
English-German translators for the last fifty years. : )
