I first heard of lenny bruce on the film "Pump up the
Volume" with christian slater and samantha mathis. At
the library scene, he is paying late fines for "How to
talk dirty..." Because I loved the film so much, I
went out and bought the book and was utterly amazed
and amused by it. Steve Allen said the three greatest
comedians/social satirist of America are(in no order)
mark twain, richard pryor, and lenny bruce. And I'd
have to pretty much agree with him. Lenny, as was
pryor and twain, was way ahead of his time. I haven't
seen the dustin hoffman film "Lenny" yet, but aim to.
I did see the documentary on lenny bruce on HBO;
narrated by Robert De Niro(only time I got to hear
Lenny's voice).
It only increased my admiration and interest in this
little 5 foot 2 guy. lol

here's a great site for learning more about lenny
(with many transcripts of his performances and other
intersting info)
