Forget it. You're not to be mistaken as such. I hope that you will
very seriously reconsider your notion to leave, because in this
terrarium, there's nothing quite as bad as a monoculture. (Some would
argue that with our subject matter, we've nearly doomed ourselves to a
life of monoculture, but I'll leave that for another time.)

Intimidating to the new, sometimes. Admirably principled and not
afraid to say so, nearly always. Frivolous, never.

Scottie, you must stay with us, unless we make your life too miserable
to bear. It would be a sad day for me personally if I were to think
of opening up messages from this list that were guaranteed to be free
of your posts.

Continue to write what you know and to be yourself, and we'll let the
rest of it sort out. For Sofia, I hope that the rest of us can be
more helpful and contributory -- and, like Scottie, I hope she will
not melt away into the background either.

It is that time of year in this climate when it is hard to take much
of anything seriously, and when one wants to climb into a
well-insulated hole. I promise to combat the life-fatigue and keep my
head and typing fingers above ground, and ask only that you, Scottie,
continue to keep on doing what you do so well.

I speak as a certified nailed-at-least-once-by-Scottie veteran!
