I think I've never thought a whole lot about the quotes on the
wall because (I may be ashamed to admit) it was one of the very
few segments of the Glass stories where I fell out of love with
the characters and thought for a second, "Ooooh, we're supposed
to think they're very deep now; that's a little pretentious Jerome,
don't you think?" It may have had something to do with the mood set by
Zooey's need to distinguish himself from the inexorable legacy of his
oldest siblings--I say inexorable because he ended up having to
BE one of those siblings in order right (Left, that is) his sister's
illness---which in turn may have been a by-product of the legacy of
her oldest siblings.

By the way is calling Mr. Salinger "Jerome" on this list akin to
calling the Lord "Yahweh" in Israel? Anyone going to stone me?

The ever audacious
Brendan
