No, seriously, I wonder whether all this "twist-in-the-tail" that we seem
to see in early JDS stories perhaps has something to do with the Whit
Burnett classes he attended? Initially, I used to be quite sceptical about
what I then thought to be "contrived" endings and such. But, seeing the
chronology of the stories, I wonder if any of the Glass stories would ever
have been written? Or, what indeed they may have been all about if Seymour
had bumped off Muriel instead? Hmmm...what a fitting case for Borges'
Library of Babel!
