Ranchan's book and Alsen's book are not necessarily worth the reading
time, depending on what you have to work with. Either of Warren French's
books are good for introductions. John Wenke's book offers a useful
introduction as well, especially to the Glass material from a sort-of
theoretical standpoint. Ian Hamilton's biography _In Seach Of_ is
wonderful for background on the man and the controversy.

Ranchan and Alsen focus almost exclusively on (eastern) religious issues
and tend to ignore (western) epistemological issues, which is where
inquiries into Salinger have most successfuly taken root. Moreover,
neither book is widely available. Your time is probably better spent
elsewhere, at least initially.

Il n'y a pas de hors texte,

Matt
